You write that quantum computing will only be helpful in a very small niche of nerdy people but what about the whole cracking encryption and Bitcoin stuff? That is in essence what everyone is talking about when mentioning the cryptography use case. Saying that if quantum computing were to work on a large scale essentially no password would be safe and blockchain could be cracked.
