Leroux bragged about everything he's ever done to the DEA. Highly unlikely creating bitcoin he would fail to mention.

I would bet that Hal's people sold the private keys to avoid any movement on the blockchain. "You can trust us, we are lawyers and here is a contract."

Those buyers moved the coins in 2017 and wanted to squeeze some more Bitcoins out of those now empty keys. They then sold the keys to a private buyer as like a trophy and those people are having some fun now.

Paul Le Roux was using an alias similar to Satoshi before Bitcoin was invented. Coupled with all the other evidence, despite the message technology being implausible now, it is still a very compelling theory.

"Beginning in or before 2008, Le Roux started covering his tracks. He operated through several shell companies in various countries and used multiple false identities, some backed with false papers. Among these were a legitimate Congolese diplomatic passport, issued in August 2008 (with his name listed as Solotshi Calder Le Roux, Paul, and his birth date as 1982-12-24)"
